Looking for a lower assessment?

Spot possible errors and learn what evidence to gather before pursuing a correction or appeal.

Know what to check

  • Spot possible assessment errors. Check the recorded value, square footage and other facts that could affect what you owe.
  • Look for a lower assessment. Compare supported county observations that may support a reduction. The evidence may also support the recorded value.
  • Know your next step. See what's supported, what's still missing and which county rules to check before pursuing a correction or appeal.

A lower assessment may reduce your tax bill. Savings depend on the county's decision, applicable tax rates and exemptions; they are not guaranteed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does a lower comparison value guarantee lower taxes?

No. The reviewing authority decides the assessment. Tax effects also depend on applicable rates, exemptions and the final taxable value. Our private pilot labels which parts of an estimate are supported and which remain unknown.

Can Untax file an appeal for me?

Appeal filing is not available in this pilot. If you decide to pursue a correction or appeal, check your county's forms, deadline and submission requirements.

What if my property record has an error?

Check the fact against your records. Keep supporting photos or documents and ask your county assessor how to request a correction. Corrections and appeals must follow the county's rules.
